Real Talk with a Counselor

In this episode, I interview licensed counselor, Michaela Detrick, about mental health. Michaela is so grounded and easy to talk with, I imagine therapy with her is like talking with a friend. She covers what is most misunderstood about mental health and how the pandemic has impacted mental health. She talks about the balance between hurrying through counseling to get to a better place and taking the time to really explore what's happening with a person. This is true in grief, as well. Ms. Detrick shared the meaning of gatekeeping in therapy and how we are not proponents of that, believing clients have a right to all the information they can process. This is a delightful conversation with a delightful woman. Look for her book in the future, "Was I Supposed to Know This?"
